    AN APPROACH TO MANAGEMENT EDUCATION: INTERDISCIPLINARY MODEL

    In business practice the paradigm has changed from global business to hybrid business. This shift requires a new quality of management education in order to bring out next-generation managers and leaders. The aim of the research is to shape an approach to management education through interdisciplinary research underpinning elaboration of a hypothesis on an innovative approach to preparing next-generation managers and leaders within management education. The meaning of the key concepts of “approach” and “principles” is studied. Moreover, the study demonstrates how the key concepts are related to the idea of “management education”. The study shows how the steps of the process are related following a logical chain: analysis of the terms “approach”, “principles” and “conditions” → approach to management education → conclusions. The novel contribution of this paper is the hypothesis on an innovative approach to preparing next-generation managers and leaders within management education

    STUDENTS’ OPINION ON WEBINARS IN HIGHER EDUCATION

    Webinars have become an indispensable tool in higher education. However, students’ opinion on webinars in higher education has not been analyzed. The aim of the present contribution is to analyze students‘ opinion on webinars in higher education underpinning elaboration of a hypothesis on educators’ contribution to the use of webinars in higher education. The meaning of the key concepts of webinar and opinion is studied. Moreover, the study shows how the steps of the process are related: identifying webinars → defining students’ opinion → empirical study within multicultural environments → conclusions. The empirical study was carried out in September 2015. The sample included 19 students from Klaipeda University, Klaipeda, Lithuania. The study results demonstrate that the students’ opinions on webinars in higher education are homogeneous. A hypothesis on educators’ contribution to the use of webinars in higher education is elaborated. Directions of further research are proposed

    The paradigm shift from input to output based engineering education, on the one hand, and digitalization of engineering education, on the other hand, have influenced the enhancement of such area of engineering studies as e-evaluation. However, e-evaluation of engineering studies has attracted little attention. The aim of the contribution is to analyze theoretical literature on e-evaluation of engineering studies underpinning elaboration of a research question on use of information technologies such as multimedia technologies, information systems, etc for e-evaluation of engineering studies. The meaning of the key concepts of assessment, evaluation and e-evaluation is studied. Moreover, the study shows how the steps of the process are related: theoretical overview of e-evaluation of engineering studies → elaboration of a research question on use of information technologies for e-evaluation of engineering studies → conclusions. The novelty of the present contribution is formulated in the research question on use of information technologies for e-evaluation of engineering studies. Directions of further research are proposed

Comparative study was applied. The study was carried out in February 2016. Data was collected via semi-structured interviews. The sample included seven educators from different countries. The data were processed via structuring and summarizing content analysis. The respondents’ views are homogeneous. A new research question is formulated. Directions of further research are proposed

    CAVE 3D: Software Extensions for Scientific Visualization of Large-scale Models

    AbstractNumerical analysis of large-scale and multidisciplinary problems on high-performance computer systems is one of the main computational challenges of the 21st century. The amount of data processed in complex systems analyses approaches peta- and exascale. The technical possibility for real-time visualization, post-processing and analysis of large-scale models is extremely important for carrying out comprehensive numerical studies. Powerful visualization is going to play an important role in the future of large-scale models. In this paper, we describe several software extensions aimed to improve visualization performance for large-scale models and developed by our team for 3D virtual environment systems such as CAVEs and Powerwalls. These extensions include an algorithm for real-time generation of isosurfaces on large meshes and a visualization system designed for massively parallel computing environment. Besides, we describe an augmented reality system developed by the part of our team in Stuttgart

    Периодические изменения автоволнового фронта в двумерной системе параболических уравнений

    The work is aimed to study front solutions of a nonlinear system of parabolic equations in a two-dimensional region. The system can be considered as a mathematical model describing an abrupt change in physical characteristics of spatially heterogeneous media. We consider a system with small parameters raised to the different powers at a differential operator, that represents the difference of typical processes speeds for the system components. The study of the system is conducted by using the contrast structures theory methods, which allowed us to obtain conditions for the existence of front solutions contained in the neighborhood of a closed curve, to determine the front velocity depending on time and coordinate along the front curve, and to obtain the zero-order and the first-order terms of the asymptotic approximation to the solution. The scope of the system includes the description of autowave solutions in the field of ecology, biophysics, combustion physics and chemical kinetics. The approximate solution allows us to choose the model parameters so that the result corresponds to the processes observed, to explain and describe the characteristics of the solutions with sharp gradients, to create models with stable solutions and thereby to simplify the numerical analysis. Note that the numerical experiment for the two-dimensional spatial models requires a considerable amount of processing power and the use of parallel computing techniques and does not allow to effectively analyze and modify the model. In this paper, we obtain the asymptotic approximation that is to be justified, which can be done by the method of differential inequalities. Работа направлена на исследование решений типа фронта для нелинейной системы параболических уравнений в двумерной области. Систему можно рассматривать как математическую модель, описывающую резкое изменение физических характеристик в пространственно неоднородных средах. Система уравнений содержит малые параметры в разных степенях при дифференциальном операторе, что означает различие характерных скоростей протекания процессов для каждой из компонент. Исследование проведено с помощью методов теории контрастных структур, что позволило получить условия существования решения типа фронта, локализованного в окрестности замкнутой кривой, определить зависимость скорости фронта от времени, получить асимптотическое приближение решения нулевого и первого порядков по малому параметру. Приближенное решение позволяет подобрать параметры модели таким образом, чтобы результат соответствовал наблюдаемым процессам, объяснять и описывать особенности решений с резкими градиентами, создавать модели, обладающие устойчивыми решениями, тем самым облегчая задачу получения численных результатов. Известно, что численный эксперимент для пространственно двумерных моделей требует значительных вычислительных мощностей, применения методов параллельного программирования и не позволяет эффективно анализировать и модифицировать модели. В данной работе получено асимптотическое приближение решения, требующее обоснования, которое может быть проведено по методу дифференциальных неравенств. Метод дифференциальных неравенств в данном случае предполагает построение верхнего и нижнего решений задачи на основе асимптотики. Область применения математической модели – описание автоволновых решений в задачах экологии, биофизики, физики горения, химической кинетики

    The article undertakes an analysis of decision-making methods used in solving difficult-formalized problems of medical diagnostics and treatment. A formal model of a medical expert system is proposed, with the purpose of selecting medical pharmaceutical treatment systems. The important task at any stage of the medical evaluation is to determine the general condition of the patient, the depth of the pathological process and the operational control of the effec-tiveness of treatment for timely correction. These problems can be attributed to a large class of practical problems in the weakly formalized decision-making process in the treatment of patients.W artykule przedstawiono analizę metod wspomagania podejmowania decyzji, które są prze-znaczone do rozwiązywania słabo sformalizowanych problemów diagnostyki medycznej i lecze-nia. Zaprezentowano formalny model systemu eksperckiego, którego celem jest usprawnienie sposobu farmaceutycznego leczenia pacjentów. Najważniejsze zadania na każdym etapie oceny medycznej to określenie ogólnego stanu pa-cjenta i głębokości procesu patologicznego oraz prowadzenie kontroli skuteczności leczenia i jego odpowiednia korekta. Zadania te są powiązane z szeroką klasą praktycznych problemów występujących w słabo sformalizowanym procesie podejmowania decyzji dotyczących leczenia pacjentów
